Picnic for ghosts at the Cheung Chau Bun Carnival

#picnic for #ghosts - at the #cheungchau #bunfestival, the King of Hell watches over a picnic (really, it looks like a picnic with #spirit #lanterns) for #hungryghosts / wandering #spirits. #hongkong #hk #hkig #hungryghost

Aside from the Piu Sik Parade and the Bun Tower scramble, there is a lesser known aspect to the Cheung Chau Bun Carnival. Here we see a picnic of hungry / wandering ghosts / spirits. What look like picnic mats are laid out with plates and cutlery. Spirit lanterns are lit and food is placed. People wander by to toss food / toys onto the picnic mats and place incense in the incense holders. Yama, Lord of Hell watches over the picnic to ensure that the hungry / wandering ghosts / spirits behave themselves.
